Cutoff for the Ising Model on the Lattice

چکیده
Introduced in 1963, Glauber dynamics is one of the most practiced and extensively studied methods for sampling the Ising model on lattices. It is well known that at high temperatures, the time it takes this chain to mix in L on a system of size n is O(logn). Whether in this regime there is cutoff, i.e. a sharp transition in the L-convergence to equilibrium, is a fundamental open problem: If so, as conjectured by Peres, it would imply that mixing occurs abruptly at (c+ o(1)) logn for some fixed c > 0, thus providing a rigorous stopping rule for this MCMC sampler. However, obtaining the precise asymptotics of the mixing and proving cutoff can be extremely challenging even for fairly simple Markov chains. Already for the one-dimensional Ising model, showing cutoff is a longstanding open problem. We settle the above by establishing cutoff and its location at the high temperature regime of the Ising model on the lattice with periodic boundary conditions. Our results hold for any dimension and at any temperature where there is strong spatial mixing: For Z this carries all the way to the critical temperature. Specifically, for fixed d ≥ 1, the continuous-time Glauber dynamics for the Ising model on (Z/nZ) with periodic boundary conditions has cutoff at (d/2λ∞) logn, where λ∞ is the spectral gap of the dynamics on the infinite-volume lattice. To our knowledge, this is the first time where cutoff is shown for a Markov chain where even understanding its stationary distribution is limited. The proof hinges on a new technique for translating L-mixing to L-mixing of projections of the chain, which enables the application of logarithmic-Sobolev inequalities. The technique is general and carries to other monotone and anti-monotone spin-systems, e.g. gas hard-core, Potts, anti-ferromagentic Ising, arbitrary boundary conditions, etc.

Magnetic Properties and Phase Transitions in a Spin-1 Random Transverse Ising Model on Simple Cubic Lattice
Within the effective-field theory with correlations (EFT), a transverse random field spin-1 Ising model on the simple cubic (z=6) lattice is studied. The phase diagrams, the behavior of critical points, transverse magnetization, internal energy, magnetic specific heat are obtained numerically and discussed for different values of p the concentration of the random transverse field.

In this paper we investigate the effect of a random transverse field, distributed according to a trimodal distribution, on the phase diagram and magnetic properties of a two-dimensional lattice (square with z=4), ferromagnetic Ising system consisting of magnetic atoms with spin-1. This study is done using the effectivefield theory (EFT) with correlations method. The equations are derived using...

متن کاملLarge logarithmic rescaling of the scalar condensate : new lattice evidences
Using two different methods, we have determined the rescaling of the scalar condensate Z ≡ Z ϕ near the critical line of a 4D Ising model. Our lattice data, in agreement with previous numerical indications, support the behavior Z ϕ ∼ ln(Λ), Λ being the ultraviolet cutoff. This result is predicted in an alternative description of symmetry breaking where there are no upper bounds on the Higgs bos...
متن کاملIndications on the Higgs boson mass from lattice simulations
The ‘triviality’ of Φ44 has been traditionally interpreted within perturbation theory where the prediction for the Higgs boson mass depends on the magnitude of the ultraviolet cutoff Λ. This approach crucially assumes that the vacuum field and its quantum fluctuations rescale in the same way. The results of the present lattice simulation, confirming previous numerical indications, show that thi...
